My Top 10 Favorite Clothing Stores (From Kmart to Banana Republic & Everything In Between)

In no particular order. Here is my list and the top reason why I love each place.

Kmart- I’m telling you, they are making a come back. You heard it here first.

Banana Republic- Classic, decent prices and quality clothes.

Francesca’s- Just adorable. I smile about at least one trinket every time I go in there.

Good Will- Low key, one of my favs. You never know what you will find. Judge me, I could care less when I’m rocking a $6 Patagonia jacket.

Marshalls- Hit or miss but when its a hit, man is it a hit in every department. Home, purses, clothes and shoes. I usually walk out with the most random things I didn’t realize I needed.

Nordstrom Rack- Just yes. I always go straight to the clearance racks but hey my motto is quality in the clearance. Boy do they have quality in the clearance.

Old Navy- $0.49, $2.49, $3.99, $0.99. How can you go wrong. This is one of those stores I always grab a cart.

Madewell- This is my store for a special piece. I LOVE the vibe and style in there. I don’t like the prices quite as much but one special piece every now and then is worth it.

Charming Charlie- Something about the entire store being color coordinated really does something to me. It is so visually pleasing and the prices are great too!

Burlington Coat Factory- I know this may sound crazy but they sometimes have just the right thing and its ALWAYS at the right price. #amiright

Do you shop at any of these places? What are your go to stores?! I would LOVE to hear.

Smile Sciences Teeth Whitening Kit Review

Hello all!

I’m sorry I’ve been so inconsistent with my blogging, I’m just preparing for our WEDDING NEXT MOTNH.. what!!! So awesome 🙂 I promise I will be more consistent after October. Anywho! I am writing today to tell you about this teeth whitening kit I have been trying out. It’s called Smile Sciences!I actually have mixed feelings about it. It is a lot of work compared to just throwing a whitening strip on. Here are all the pieces the kit comes with..I mean the packaging/ box is adorable but once you get past that, it’s not very fun. You have to mold the guards to your teeth with very detailed instructions and mine still didn’t really turn out well. Once you mold the guards you have to put a dot of whitening gel on each tooth spot but it’s hard to tell where that is. Then you have to keep up with the results with the whitening brush.

My teeth were not by any stretch yellow but I wanted to get them pearly for the wedding. (This is my before photo.) They give you this results scale so you can see the difference. The other item in the box is the teeth light to accelerate the process.

The results so far are okay but not what I’d like after all the work. I’m giving it more time though. Maybe I’m just lazy and this doesn’t seem like a lot of work but that’s okay too! It was quite the experience but I think I may just stick with strips and brushing well from now on. It’s always fun to try something new! I’ll keep you updated on the final results, maybe I’ll change my mind and think all the work was totally worth it. 🙂

10 Things I Am Grateful For This Month

There is so much to be grateful for. So much even packed into just one day. You just have to have the willingness to notice and acknowledge it. Life really gets in the way sometimes and you just have to literally stop and take in the wonderfulness around you even when it isn’t very evident what exactly is wonderful. Some days just really suck and it seems like nothing good will ever come but keep the faith. Keep pushing through, keep doing the right thing and you will eventually reap the blessings of your hard work.

As for September:

I am grateful for…

1.) A coolness in the air. How your not sure whether to wear a tank top or a sweatshirt. I love weather like this. The almost fall air 🙂

2.) Trader Joe’s. Can I get an amen? I just really love everything about that place.

3.) My fiancé. Who will be my HUSBAND.. NEXT MONTH. I literally cannot wait. That man is my greatest blessing.

4.) Jesus. None of this would be possible without his gracious love and mercy. A lot of my decisions are Biblically based and its so sad to me how many norms now a days are so opposite from that. I pray for this world and for His love to shine down on all but especially those who need His love the most 🙂

5.) My bike. Bikes rock but they are not cheap. I am so thankful for it and to be able to go for bike rides.

6.) Kind people. Kind people are a blessing. A smile, a wave and a bit of patience with others goes along way.

7.) Blankets. Is there anything better than snuggling up under a blanket and letting a little squeal of happiness out?! I just love the feeling of the initial under the covers touch.

8.) Sting cheese.

9.) A new tube of mascara. Or really any brand new make up.

10.) Burgers on the grill. That smell gets me every time.

These are just a few things that have made my days so far this month. It really is the simple things.

How To Turn a 3-4 Hour Migraine Into a 20 Minute Migraine

I just had a migraine yesterday and of course it was awful, as always. But! In the past year I found out a way to shorten migraines. Once I figure out a way to stop them completely I’ll let know you.. (I wish!)

When you realize you are getting a migraine, do not try to stop it, or cry that it’s happening, it will only make it worst. Instead, accept that it is happening and allow your body to relax and let the migraine run its course.

My migraines used to last 3-4 hours and the next day I felt like I got hit by a truck. They really take a toll on your body. When I get one, I lose my vision and have a massive headache that occurs from my shoulders to the top of my head and all throughout my skull. I also become very light and sound sensitive. Everything seems SO bright and SO loud! If that sounds familiar keep reading! If it doesn’t, you are one of the lucky ones!

How to turn it into 20 minutes:

1.) As soon as you can feel it coming on, take Excedrin Migraine.

2.) This is going to sound ridiculous but bare with me, it works. Sit on the counter part of your bathroom sink. Dap topical lavender essential oils on your wrists and behind your ears on your neck. Place a frozen bag of peas or ice pack on the back of your neck/ back of your skull. Submerge your feet and hands in warm water. I sometimes put a pillow between my knees and head to make this a little more comfortable. Feel free to diffuse lavender essential oils in the room as well. Do this for as long as you feel you need. I usually start to feel better after about 15-20 minutes.

3.) Allow your body to unwind and just relax. Be sure while your migraine is taking place to be in silent, dark areas. Keep your surroundings as dark as they can be and as quiet as possible. In college I didn’t have curtains one year because I had four huge windows in my room so I used to set up camp in my closet and shut the door. (Even just normal natural light through windows seemed like looking into a flashlight.) You gotta do what you gotta do!

4.) Take a nap, or just take it easy the rest of the day!

5.) I always pray during my migraines as well. It has always helped! Praying and being in an intimate relationship with Jesus will change your life for the better in every aspect. I talk to Jesus like a friend because he is the best friend you will ever have. He loves you more in one moment than any person can love you in a lifetime. ❤

If you have any other migraine questions I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability. I have been getting migraines for about 9 years now so I have experience, unfortunately. I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your day!

You are loved.

Why Columbus, Ohio is awesome and not just a cornfield. (Plus my outfit details)

Hello Friends!

For those of you who don’t know, my fiancé, David and I moved to Columbus a few months ago. David was born here and has always been a Buckeye fan which is rare to find in a Michigander, which is where we are from. We grew up in the same hometown in Michigan but never truly connected until we meet in college. Totally God’s timing but I’ll save that whole fun story for another blog post.

So here we are back where David was born! We love it here and love exploring all the fun things to do in Columbus. Although, we miss the beaches of Southwest Michigan, we are quickly adjusting to all the awesome things central Ohio has to offer.

Our favorite spots so far are:

  1. The Short North/Arena District
  2. Graeter’s Ice Cream
  3. Downtown Westerville
  4. Downtown Dublin.. well Dublin in general 🙂
  5. Easton Town Center!!! (A must go)
  6. Alum Creek State Park Beach
  7. Polaris- Fashion Place and all the resturants
  8. A Nordstrom Rack… walking distance from my place.. AHH! So great but not for the ole wallet
  9. Grocery Shopping at Trader Joe’s
  10. The new Ikea that just opened 1 minute from David’s work
  11. Milestone 229 riverfront restaurant downtown Columbus on the Scioto Mile

Just to name a few!

Now for the outfit details featured on my instagram (@bethelightandwrite) earlier this week:

FullSizeRender (36)IMG_6384

My black slide on bow sandals are actually from Meijer. I scored them for $6.25! I was pumped. I got a pair in white, too!

The cream skirt is from Express. I wore in in our engagement shoot! I love the way it twirls and it has pockets.. my fav!IMG_6389

It is comfortable and zips in the back! It goes with a lot of shirts. This is my wonderful fiancé and I exploring downtown Columbus together. We love adventuring together!

The shirt is from Banana Republic and the sleeves are my favorite part! The shirt adds a nice pop of color. With my hair being so dark, I don’t wear a lot of black and like to pop colors!

When you come to Columbus be sure to add some of the places I mentioned in the post to your trip itinerary! Feel free to ask me any Central Ohio questions or send along your favorite spots for me to check out!

I told you columbus isn’t just a cornfield! 🙂

My Top 3 Favorite Beauty Products Right Now

Even though I am more of a clothes person than a make up guru, I still enjoy finding great make up. I like easy make up, that makes my life simpler. I am all about simplicity. (Or at least, I like to think that I am.) Anyways my 3 favorites and go to’s have been the same for awhile.

1.) Urban Decay Perversion Mascara “Bigger. Blacker. Badder.”

I got mine for $23 at Sephora but it seems as though it is $23 around the clock. Whether you buy it at Ulta, Macy’s, Nordstrom, or wherever it’ll be $23. Hooray if you find it cheaper somewhere else! 🙂

But this stuff rocks. It’s main goal is to lengthen. It truly does with just a couple swipes. From my experience, it stays on all day and I don’t have to reapply for any evening plans, which I normally do with other mascaras. It has a very quality brush as well.

2.) Elf Under Eye Concealer & Highlighter

This $3 magic stick works wonders. Yes, that is $3.00. Elf is amazing. I’ve always been a fan of Elf. They have pretty good make up for such reasonable prices. Which is perfect for a gal like me that likes make up but not enough to drop my whole paycheck on it. Places I buy Elf are usually Target or Walmart.

First I do about 3 to 4 dots of the concealer under each eye. Then I blend it with this I know it needs to be cleaned, but hey, I use it! Once that is blended in, I do about 4 to 5 dots on top of that of the highlighter. Then blend that in with the blender. Then to make it look more natural I finish the look using my finger as a blender. Ta-dah! Bye bye tired eyes and black circles!

3.) Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

This palette is usually about $54. But it is worth it. Typically available at Sephora, Ulta, Macy’s, or Nordstrom. Not only is it so satisfying to open and look at but it looks good on your eyes, so that’s cool too. I’m sure you have all heard about the Naked eyeshadow palette’s but I wanted to give you my take on them, specifically the smoky one!

Here she is! I’ve had this for about a year and in my bias opinion I’d say it still looks pretty good! These palettes last.

My favorite shadows to use are high, dirtysweet, whiskey and thirteen. High & dirtysweet are on the far left and whiskey and thirteen are toward the right. Whiskey is the dark brown one.. surprise! And thirteen is the far right. These are the ones I use most frequently and I change it up with them.

I love to do whiskey in my eyelid crease for a little bit of a bolder look. I don’t know that I would ever consider my eye make up to be very “bold”, though. I love to use thirteen under my eyebrow above my eyeshadow. Then I mostly use high and dirtysweet as the main eye shadow. Just a great versatile palette overall.

Woowho!!! Those 3 products make me pumped to do my make up. I would highly recommend all three of them. But just know that I am in no way shape or form a make up artist, but I LOVE these three products. I have plenty of other favorites but these three are my top favorites. Let me know what your beauty product favs are!

All Things Bridal Party

Hello again!

I am here to help with all things relating to bridal parties. Questions running through your head while selecting your party may be: How many? How do I choose? Will they be mad at me if I don’t choose them? Do my fiancé and I have to have an equal number? How do I choose a dress for multiple body types? How do I ask them? Who gets to be MOH? ..They are probably a bunch more questions but I have answers or at least how I handled all of these questions. Let dive right in!

1.) How many bridesmaids?

For me, I knew I wanted to keep it smaller, to be more meaningful/intimate. Some people want to have larger bridal parities but that can sometimes make drawing the line harder and be more expensive. I am also into symmetry, so my fiancé and I have 5 & 5. So our bridal party has 12 people including my fiancé, David and I. I didn’t want the head table to consist of like 15 tables and not be able to see the end of my party. I wanted them near and dear, because they are near and dear to my heart. I have a special relationship with each bridesmaid I chose. They have all stayed when things got tough, helped me though my low points and been my cheerleaders and supports when things were going well. That may sound super cheesy but you have to think of it in that way. Who has been there for you? Who would you call in times of sorrow and excitement? Narrow it down to the truest of true friendships you have. Also lots of prayer about who to pick if a number or people don’t come into your head naturally.

2.) How do I choose?

I touched on a little in the last answer. But this is your tie to be choosy and thank those friends have passed the test of time and the test of life. Also think ahead like a few years, will this relationship still be here after the wedding, could we not be friends by the time the wedding is. Take all things into consideration. You want to have your main “squad” with you.

3.)Do my fiancé and I have to have an equal number?

No. It is your day, it is completely up to you!

4.) How do I choose a dress for multiple body types?

This was a tough one because not only do you want it to flatter all the body types but you want to keep it at a reasonable price for them. You want them to feel so beautiful, match your wedding colors and stay in price. I choose a long dress because we are having a Fall wedding so it has the potential to be chillier. The dress I chose is gold and black. Our wedding colors are black and gold with pops of hot pink. I knew I wanted pink flowers so I did not want to do a pink dress for pink overload. So keep flowers in the back of your mind when selecting a bridesmaid dress. The dress is flowy and not super tight. The dress also has chest pads so bras aren’t necessary and it has pockets. When I saw it had pockets it was a done deal. I even wore it myself. It is comfortable, available in all sizes, easy to dance in and flattering. Yay!!

5.) How do I ask them?

I asked my friends to be my bridesmaid all individually and in person. I got cute storage boxes from Hobby Lobby, filled them with easter basket paper shreds, put a ring pop, a shot glass, a small picture frame of me and that girl, a small string banner towards the back, a hand written note, some hershey kisses sprinkled throughout and a “will you be my bridesmaid card?” in the middle. Thankfully, they all said yes! 🙂

6.) Who gets to be MOH?

Having a sister or a cousin/family member thats like a sister makes an easy decision for Made of Honor. Since I do not have a sister, I actually chose not to have a MOH, to show all my BM that they all are so important to me and I did not want to pick one. The have al been stepping up in different things to do MOH duties. So you don’t always have to choose a MOH if you are struggling with that decision. Remember, it is your day! 🙂

Let me know if you have any other Bridal Party questions and I could be happy to answer them. You can contact me on the contact me button at the top or comment here.

Wedding Planning Tips

1.) Download the Wedding Wire App

  • It will help you stay on schedule and know what to do when

2.) Do your wedding registry early

3.) Compare prices for everything but remember that you get what you pay for

4.) Use Vista print from paper products. They are about $3-4 cheaper per card. (Times that by 150-200, yikes! It’s only paper, folks)

5.) Ask for help.. divide and conquer!

6.) Use your network of friends and family for florists, photographer, coordinator, lights, decorations, etc. (Try to save a buck)

7.) Along with the Wedding Wire app, get WedSocial.

  • Wed Social allows you to do a lot of things but I use it to view our wedding website on my smartphone.

8.) MAKE A WEDDING WEBSITE. I REPEAT, MAKE A WEDDING WEBSITE!

  • Not only is it super fun to make, it allows you to share all your relevant information with your guests. Information such as Event info/directions, an about us section, a photo album, share your wedding party, links to your registries, hotel accommodations, flight help, local activities, contact us tab and many other great features.
  • We put our wedding website URL on the save the date. Very helpful tool!

9.) Go to a wedding event, meet local vendors and have fun!!

10.) Don’t try to do everything in a day, or even a week or month. Space it out and don’t let yourself feel overwhelmed.

11.) Use Pinterest as a tool for inspiration and ideas but do not compare, or let yourself feel like your wedding doesn’t “measure up.” There is so much on Pinterest for engagements and weddings but do what you can, using your style, and in your budget.

12.) Also decide on a Wedding budget and still to it, very early on!

13.) Remember that your marriage should be more beautiful than your wedding. Make your marriage your priority. ❤

Let me know if you have any questions regarding anything weddings!
